I didn't think a baby would be interested in a mattress until I put him on a cheap mattress in his crib and he started squeaking. He could only sleep on his swing or on our thick exercise mat. He obviously likes a thick, firm, soft mattress and this was the thickest, hardest and softest mattress I could find. He's 10 weeks old and he sleeps a full 11 hours a night on this thing. In addition, this mattress appears to be perfectly safe. I can't imagine him choking on it even if he rolls over on his stomach. He squeezes a little, but not enough to block his airway. The price made me cringe, but the toddler side guarantees we'll live a few years. It's hard to tell baby's side from baby's side, so I marked one side with a permanent marker. And since you read reviews, I assume you are dealing with a baby who isn't sleeping well, so I'm going to recommend two other products that are great for that: Suzy Giordano's book called The Baby Sleep Solution and this one Baby is a heart-shaped pacifier that rustles, projects stars onto the ceiling and has a crying sensor. With all three he sleeps perfectly now.
