What's with the chemical smell?

They're cute and seem to somehow be porous, in spite of the paint. But what's with the paint? It has a smell and feeling that reminds me of petroleum and it kinda makes me wonder if I'm safe touching them.

These are adorable. Perfect for what I needed them for.

Cons

The pots may not be suitable for outdoor use in areas with extreme weather conditions or temperature changes
