I had a pair of tan suede shoes that I loved but always wished I wore black to match most of my dark clothes (hey, it's New Jersey!). So they sat down. and sat down. And then I read an article about how to dye suede and I realized, dammit, I'm not wearing them anyway. Well, it was as simple as that, and this color was absolutely perfect, covering every last bit of tan on the outside of the shoe (who's looking at the inside of the sole? Plus, I didn't want to risk erasing it). Now I have nice stylish black suede shoes and I wear them all the time. Tip: Put on disposable rubber or latex gloves and paint your designs over newspaper or some other protective layer. The drying time is less than 24 hours, then I sprayed them with a water repellent. You'll feel like a master when you dye your first pair and there's still enough left in the bottle to dye something else!
