Ok but I may reconsider my next purchase

This was my first beeswax purchase, I will say I haven't spent much time shopping here being a wife and mom with limited time. but I'll start with what happened after I opened the bag. I opened and sniffed and inspected them, they seemed acceptable so I "closed" the bag but it was not sealed and WAS NOT sealable. I spilled some when I put them on because my bag didn't seal, so fair warning I've been saving the pellets for a while and they're tiny. Even the people who say it doesn't smell very good are right. I'm not sure how it 'should' smell, and I'm sure different bees/sources will be different, but I'll say it wasn't particularly pleasant, but not entirely unbearable. I used beeswax as a base for a healing balm, so I used 3 different essential oils - coconut oil, olive oil - and sunflower oil and mixed them into the wax. The odor of the wax is now invisible, so if you mix oils/scents with it, the odor shouldn't be an issue. However, if you want to make candles out of beeswax, I can't say you're good at it. I actually made a small candle out of pellets that I threw around and it smelled so bad I added some orange oil thinking it would mask the smell but it didn't - I'm not a candle maker, just thought , it might be worth a try, but that was my experience. My ointment seems normal and smells nice like the oils I've used (lavender, peppermint, and lemongrass). I think next time I'll look for another source.

Pros
  • Candle making
Cons
  • No power

Smelled of burnt something.... I couldn't get rid of the smell even after melting.
