Review on SUTEFOTO Handheld Stabilizer Version Panasonic by Brandon Gaines

New steadicam arrived defective

In short: this steadicam arrived with a defective bearing. In general, the build quality and quality control of this company is extremely poor. To be clear, this review is about the Steadicam SUTEFOTO Pro Model SF-06 DSLR. Revain and/or its customers have a bad habit of aggregating reviews of different products from the same vendor. The unit arrived in a regular Revain box but with no factory box or packaging around the product, just a couple of foam inserts to center it. Steadicam was like the photo. The black anodizing on every detail looked new and pristine. The handle looked relatively clean and unused. To answer a common question, the grip was hard rubber, which provided a firm grip but wasn't soft enough to cause hesitation/wiggling when spinning quickly. The bearings were genuine in all axes, no bushings. The defect of this steadicam was that the main pivot bearing of the steering rack was defective. It did not spin freely, encountered significant resistance, and stalled in one place. I opened the dust cap on the bearing to see if there was a visible solution, there was nothing. I quickly checked to see if the bearing cap unscrewed, but it appeared to have threadlock applied to it. I didn't have to fix these things on a brand new item. Even if the cap could be untied, there was still a place to tie. Didn't spend more time on it. There are other providers of this type of Steadicam, where I will buy in the future.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
