Review on πŸ”§ Tavy Thin Skin 8501 Glue with 007 Super Adhesive by Gelin Battle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well. They're not kidding when they say mineral spirits must be on hand when using

I'm no expert, but I've sold other floor adhesives several times. Tavi looks a little thinner. It applies easily and seems to stick to everything as advertised. Make sure you have mineral spirits and rags with you when using it. I also had a cake pan that contained a half inch of alcohol so I could set up a spatula for easier clean up. I used the Tavy system to tile a 7' x 12' concrete basement with cracks up to 1/8" in size. It used to have old green square sticky tiles on it, and the floor was covered in some kind of black sealer that I could only remove with an acidic cleaner... I thought about it and then gave up... I hope it doesn't come back, to bite me I swept and mopped the floor, vacuumed the cracks, then filled them in with Quickcrete concrete paving, swept and mopped again. Pave a row with glue/paper and leave to dry overnight. The next evening another line of glue/paper. This was done so I could step over it to go up and down the steps without stepping on it until it was dry. The family won't notice. I had a few cat paw prints, but nothing that tile grout couldn't easily take care of. After all the glue/paper has been applied and dried you will have a nice, firm, smooth surface to lay the tiles on. minor unevenness in the floor was leveled out with tile mortar. The finished floor looks great. I only gave 4 stars for ease of use because I've never used a spreadable glue that I would give 5 stars. it's always dirty. But again, I'm no expert!

Pros
  • TAVY #007 Adhesive - it's a high quality, high solids, multipurpose adhesive that will stick to any surface.
Cons
  • Out of fashion
