Fast Hard Drive Accessory

I've had the FW400 version for a long time and it's great. I just received this FW800 model and the speed is great. The form factor is the same as the others, with a full board inside holding the drive, which is very solid compared to some cases where only the dongle board is connected to the SATA connector. Instead of two FW400 ports, this case has one FW400 and one FW800 port, as well as a USB port. Aluminum body with plastic end caps. It gets pretty hot with a 500g drive, which means it's doing its job of dissipating heat. All three cables are included. Please note that the USB cable has two connectors for connecting to a computer, which means that two connectors are required to provide sufficient power to the drive. I haven't tested USB, but both FireWire ports are powered via the appropriate cable. With the FW400, as with the other model, be sure to use a 6-pin cable such as the one supplied, as a 4-pin cable will not deliver power. A power adapter for wall mounting is not included, although there is a socket for it on the back of the case. The performance of the FW800 is brilliant. I use this case to store my iMovie work events in a portable form factor and the extra speed is welcome. Update: On my Macbook Pro, the laptop doesn't seem to be delivering enough power to the Firewire bus when running on battery power. Strength. The case works, but intermittently. I had power outages and read/write errors when my MacBook battery was below 50%. I don't think it's the torso. When the MacBook is plugged in, the case is fine.
