First of all, if you are looking for the best American vise, this is not for you. However, this is an exceptional German value wrench. The forged steel parts that make up the vise are of excellent quality and their fit and finish is more than acceptable. The anvil is very large for a vise of this range and feels stiff after a month of use. I mounted the vise on a peninsula, so the swivel doesn't matter. The quick release interferes with the pivot when the vise is moved so that the QR arm is over the mounting bolt, which is less than optimal, but it doesn't interfere with my mounting position. I would choose a solid base model, all other things being equal. The vise's lead screw also doesn't have the thinnest threads and therefore doesn't apply as much force to the object as some of the other vises I've used; That wasn't a problem either, but I wanted to mention it. I would consider this to be the lowest quality and lowest priced vise available on the market today. The quick release mechanism is very functional and works well without introducing extra play. The vise opens up fairly quickly without it, so I think any vise in this family will please those looking for functionality at a reasonable price. Money is no problem, buy a new American vise for about three times the price. Pay attention to the bottom line = buy this brand.
