At the moment, Intel is in front, miles ahead of its rivals. Multi-threaded desktop processors in the $100-$150 price range offer more than enough performance for multimedia, games, and everyday chores for several more years. Costlier processors often have a multiplicative rise in price for a similar decrease in performance. In my opinion, there is no need for a home to have a more powerful processor.
