The smell is unbearable. I have tried fabric softener and left them out for 3 days and nights in winter weather, even with 3 dryer sheets in the initial smell was overpowering. I thought 3 pieces would be nice, but since the middle piece is made of thin fabric, there isn't enough separation, all 3 pieces become one big mess that needs to be sorted out. The dark interior makes it difficult to separate into three parts. You can't just reach for something in this handbag. You have to fuss, disassemble parts and search in the dark. I like the size but at this size it would be better to use a large section. Then you can open your wallet and look for what you want in a large room. I have another bag with a large compartment and it works much better. My new wallet has more durable faux leather, so it costs better. It opens wide enough to look inside and see what I need. I use ipsy cosmetic bags as organizer. It also has large pockets on the outside to store things that can be taken outside. All outside pockets fit my phone. The case I am returning only has an outside pocket and although it looks larger it does not fit my phone. I don't know what the seller can do about this smell but I've had the purse for over a week and it still smells just as strong and disgusting.
