Pretty much what I wanted. The new item has a significant amount of odor fumes, but I have found that other mouse pads have this as well, so I expect this will go away after a short while. The pad feels good, the surface works well with my mouse. The edges curl up a bit - I expect them to flatten out after a while, but that probably wouldn't be an issue if the pad were thicker. All in all a good buy at a good price. (Added later.) Another feature of this mouse pad that most others have in common is that the top expands as you move away from the bottom of the pad. This might be fine for desktop use, but I'm using a keyboard tray and it doesn't fit snugly next to the keyboard. I ended up trimming the sides so they were straight so they would fit.
