The highest step was a bit high for our 13 month old so we lowered it to the middle position which was perfect! She loves watching and "helping" us cook. You'll definitely need to protect your LO until he learns to get in and out on his own, but it didn't take long for me to figure that out. Assembly was easy with all the tools provided. It took me, an inexperienced builder, about 30 minutes to complete the assembly. For someone who has collected similar things before, it will probably take less time. Overall, I am very satisfied with this chair and can definitely recommend it. I love the wood texture too!
