This is a gorgeous journal. It's unique and well crafted. It's highly evident that they are handmade and the small imperfection lends to the charm of it. Mine does not have any sort of bizarre odor and the design is clear and the pages clean. My only issue with it is the paper. It holds up well to the various inks I've thrown at it, but it does NOT like my fountain pens. The writing is very scratchy and dry. It also does not take kindly to erasers. I was thinking of drawing some lines in to keep my writing straight and discovered that it gets a bit angry when you rub an eraser over it. The paper will pill up and even come off if you try to use too much pressure. So, if you're going to use this to draw in or plan to erase anything, this may not be the one you want to use. That being said, it's such a gorgeous thing I can't help but want to write in it, so therefore I'm willing to accept that my lines will not be straight and maybe that will lend even more charm to it. Overall I'm pleased and would recommend this journal.
