Passive cooling not enough

I bought it because my 2TB 970 Evo Plus reached 70C when connected to m.2 of my motherboard, which is really too much. With this drive installed, my drive reached 61Β°C and after idling again it dropped to around 57-58Β°C. Not a bad improvement, but still nothing special. I then moved the card to a slot just below my GPU fans, and it now maxes out at 54C and stays that way even after long benchmarks/gaming sessions (this doesn't affect GPU temperatures of course), so with proper direct cooling you will probably get even better results. I am very happy with the 54C as it serves the purpose I bought it for. Also note that I noticed a bit slower random writes during testing, but the drive still behaves the same as before, so that doesn't bother me. PS: The installation was not easy. You get extra screws but nobody told me that there is already a very small screw inside that I have to unscrew and use and those screws are just extra and don't make a difference. I am ashamed to admit that I stumbled upon this for a long time. Also, the tiny black screws don't cover the case completely, I was only able to use 2 screws as the rest didn't screw in and kept falling off. Not funny.

Pros
  • Memory card adapter
Cons
  • Compatibility
