The cable itself consists of 3 parts, this is normal. The power supply has a 2-pin "plug" (instead of the usual 3-pin) that is actually 49 inches long (measured with a tape measure). The next section has a "power box" and you need to attach an electrical wire to that section at the 49" end and then it extends another 74" to a very small box just 5" from yours is removed. So the round connector goes into a little box at the end of this 74 inch unit and this little box is 1 and 1/4 inch by 3/4 inch then a tiny round wire goes into this little box that has the wire, this is 5 inch that can finally be connected to your laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron 15R. The only thing I've noticed is that these 3 separate connections sometimes "disconnect" when you're not expecting it. And the last 5 inch cable that goes into your laptop feels a little "loose" and not tight. So I would say my laptop is charging about 70% of the time, which is NOT the case. The cable that goes with the laptop itself is just too loose. I was thinking of buying black tape to stick it better. good idea or not? I will ask the seller. Otherwise it works, but the original Dell cable that came with the computer worked 100% of the time. I just have to keep track of all three links they are together as they tend to come apart easily and I end up with little to no cost. My computer displays a message saying it doesn't recognize a charging adapter when it does. I just want everything to stay together and sit a little tighter on the laptop itself. Cable length is good. For travel it will probably fall apart a lot in my case. I had it on the plane in June but didn't use it because it got stuck in the luggage compartment and I couldn't get it out (my laptop). The delivery took place at night. I tried to contact the seller through the website but to no avail. Connection not possible. I do not know why.
