Not completely rustproof... Does food contaminate?

The photo says it all. It's garbage from somewhere. The pins on the bottom are NOT stainless steel. First use was for stewed potatoes... the pins turned black leaving a black ring in my pot and damaging the bottom. Even Friend Bartenders couldn't take it off. I can't tell why this thing has so many high reviews unless the manufacturer recently switched to cheaper metal. Will definitely not be using this again! It's back today and I'll be looking for it made in the USA.
