I bought this because I didn't have a waffle iron and thought while I was buying it I might as well get one that makes cute animal shapes. My children are 11 and 12 years old. The waffle iron was delivered quickly and well packaged. We followed the instructions for prepping the iron, wiping and oiling. We made the first recipe in the booklet that came with the iron. It wasn't the easiest of recipes as it involved separating four eggs, beating egg whites into peaks, sifting flour and baking powder, etc. A recipe for the weekend rather than weekdays. The recipe also called for 1/2 cup melted butter. The resulting batter was very thick and almost gooey, and I figured the waffles would be what my kids call an "epic flop." When the iron was hot I sprayed it with a non-standard spray and poured about 1/8 cup of batter into each small hole, set the timer for 3 minutes and was amazed when I opened the lid. You turned out great! They were a bit pale on top so I turned them over and let them sit a few more minutes. You turned out great. They don't look like waffles at all. They're almost like the steamed little balls of dough you get at a Chinese buffet, but crunchy on the outside. I have no regrets, would buy again and think it would make a great gift for a teenager, teenager or parents of young children. Cupcakes are perfect for dipping in syrup.
