This review is from American Crew Firm Hold: I have been a satisfied customer of American Crew Gel for over 10 years. I have tried all types of hair gels in different price ranges and I keep coming back to this one. I have thick hair and it suits me, doesn't dry out or peel. I like that it is alcohol free. Smell: Has a light fragrance, almost like a men's perfume. Don't overwhelm or linger. The smell is mainly perceived when squeezing out of the bottle. After application and during the day it does not smell at all. Durability: As they say, a strong hold. The hair does not move and adjusts the amount needed for the desired stiffness. It helps a little - this gel is thick. Wearability: It stays on me all day without peeling. I apply it in the morning after washing/drying my hair and it lasts all day - same great hold as morning all day without reapplying. The difference between the formulas: I bought a light hold and a strong hold. I prefer a firm hold because I use less product to get the desired result. Both had similar smells and consistency when applied. Both gels are of good quality. Size: I like to buy a 33.8 ounce bottle. Bottles of this size usually last for several months, and it is more profitable to buy a larger bottle. I found the best prices here at Revain. What I usually do is if I see a lot on it I buy a few and then it's ready for a year+. They don't go bad, and finding a bargain by buying a few extras will save you money in the long run, especially with a product that you've been using daily and for years. In comparison, my local big chain of beauty salons sells them for $33. I bought them online with up to 46% discount. Can women use it?: Yes, of course. Although marketed for men, women can use it. The initial scent smells like it's meant to be for men only, but as mentioned before, the scent disappears after application, allowing a woman to use it when needed. If she ever runs out of her brand of gel, she can definitely use this one if she wants. This is a really great hair gel. I give it a full 5 stars and will continue to buy it.
