I need an external Time Machine backup drive and one to store my startup drive. I first bought a Western Digital external drive and was very disappointed as it loaded software that seemed to conflict with the operation of Disk Utility. I was able to get a Time Machine backup and when it was ready you had to force eject the drive. This drive works great and doesn't crash when your MacBook goes to sleep, installs updates, or performs other operations. I've been using LaCie external drives for many years and they have worked flawlessly. My only wish is that USB-C powered cables weren't so thick and stiff. The external drive is so light that you can easily swivel it around your desk with a cable. It would be great to have a 2-3 inch cable so the MacBook, cable and external drive are in the same line.
