Do not update the firmware
I bought Epson XP-7100 last year, after a month of use he asked me to update the firmware and I enter yes, so my firmware went to version YL11K6 has been updated . Everything works fine until I quit Ink, there are several ink manufacturers in Revain, after reading all the reviews I choose EZIink. Luckily EZInk works so well with my printer, the ink quality is so good and there are no firmware issues so I keep buying EZink for my printer. Updating the firmware may cause your printer to reject ink from another manufacturer. Whenever my printer asks me to update the firmware, I just say no and cancel.
