In 1957, as a little girl, I won the YOYO championship competition in West Des Moines, Iowa. I competed against 30 others. I was the ONLY GIRL. I was 10 years old. Several men from Japan came to Iowa and our school and showed us all the tricks they could do with the yo-yo. They were real experts and I was determined to learn from them. I practiced for hours. I wish I still had my first yo-yo. They were all made of wood and painted different colors, and instead of cords we used KITE cords. After I won, they carved a beautiful oriental bird on one side of my yo-yo and my name on the other. I was so proud of this YoYo. and they gave me a little plastic cup trophy. All the boys were mad at me because I was the little girl beating them all. hahahaha. These new yo-yos are perfect. And I love colors. I showed the three little boys in the neighborhood all the tricks I can do. I am 74 years old and you will NEVER forget it!
