Now that taking temperature has become something of an Olympic sport, it's difficult to choose the right tools for it. I seem to have everything from an old mercury thermometer to "digital" thermometers that are so oddly shaped you won't know how to put them in your mouth, to ones that scan your ear, to ones that you have to wipe your brow at. Now that I've tried that, the rest can be removed. It works great right out of the box. One click of the button turns it on, the second click (when you hover your mouse over something) reads the temperature in a split second. I was skeptical about the accuracy, but I've compared it to others I have and it's never differed from them by more than a few tenths. I've also learned to read other surface temperatures, including the "sunstone" in my pet turtle's enclosure (just for fun). The numbers on the block are bright and large, easy to read indoors. If you're using it outdoors, the numbers won't show up well unless you're in the shade. The trade-off, however, is that you can see the display well in the dark, making it great for reviewing. Temperature in the child in the middle of the night. Great device, easy to use.
