Review on Cuisinart Citrus Juice Extractor with Carafe by Rachel Ford

Making orange juice can actually be a gooey mess. My husband and I had a very small citrus grove. We sold oranges, grapefruits, limes and lemons. We've always made juice for ourselves and others, so we've always had a juicer of one form or another in our house. One or two burned out too. The shape of the cone and the design of the ridges are important to us. We're out of grove and juicer so when our neighbor gave us a whole bunch of oranges I found them by brand. Most of my small appliances are Cuisinart, maybe just my Mixmaster is MixMaster. This juicer easily squeezed over a gallon and a half of juice. I threw away the strainer three times because I reduced the pulp content. For these special oranges, it took about 12 oranges to fill a glass jar to the metal strip. I poured the juice into a larger pitcher to keep in the fridge. A bag of oranges from the store easily fits in a jar, which is stored in the fridge until next time. The cone does an excellent job of scraping the juice without damaging the skin or making the juice bitter. The holes in the strainer are small enough, regardless of the setting, so no pips get into the juice. You also don't get skins from the segments. Only the tasty part of the pulp. If you rinse the parts right away, it's very easy to clean them. No crevices or hiding places for the orange pieces or cracks, the juice can settle out and become sticky. An on/off drip eliminator comes in handy when you're ready to remove the jug. This helps avoid a sticky mess on the platform. It occupies a small footprint and matches the other of my black and stainless appliances, so I leave it on the counter, but it's low so it fits easily in a closet. The only downside at the moment is that the clear plastic lid didn't stay up due to the plastic tray being slightly out of round due to packaging/shipping. But now that it's been out of the box for a while it fits and stays in place well.
