Cheap junk. Already dead when we got here. It works like a surge protector, but the timer is cheap crap. When I first saw the negative reviews I figured that as with most products, they were in the minority. You're right. One person said they went through 6 in one year and I believe them. They look cheap and light. I'm not surprised that it's unreliable, but what really surprises me is that another company hasn't jumped on it and released a high-end model that performs a similar function. It's not complicated/advanced technology. It's just a combination of a surge protector and a timer. And beware, every other brand selling the same item is made in the SAME FACTORY in China. They are simply branded for different companies. So the Vivosun is no more reliable than the Century - it's the same product. Alternatively, I bought a surge protector from Amazon Basics - NOT the cheap ones that come in a ten dollar pair - one that can handle more voltage and I've paired it with the Vivosun and the Century Digital Outlet Timer. Digital socket timers seem to be more reliable and of higher quality. I used one of these on a reptile last year and it gave me no problems, knock wood. Mine died at least within the right of return.
