The mechanism itself worked well and held firmly to the countertop.

This is not at all what I expected. I grow green beans and have an abundance. I wanted the slices to be the length of a bean, which I call a french slice. This one cuts the beans, but at an angle so you end up with lots of small chunks of beans instead of multiple lengths of beans. The mechanism itself worked well and was stable on the countertop.
