Review on Tripp Lite Enclosure Horizontal SRCABLEDUCT2UHD by Christopher Theriault

Organization is important for racks and cabinets

I have purchased and tried several Tripp Lite horizontal cable organizers for my Tripp Lite 12USG wall stand but this proved to be the best choice and I have it Remainder returned to Revain. I have two partially populated Tripp Lite 24-port patch panels (model N252-024) in a rack that power a Cisco SG200-26 rack-mounted data switch. This is SOHO LAN. I placed this cable management box between two patch panels and a Cisco data switch and once completed the cabling looked very neat and organized. The manager was able to lay all 26 CAT6 patch cords. While any 2U cable manager would probably suffice, the 1U units were too small for my situation. In fact, I don't recommend them if you have rack space, they're just too narrow to work with my large hands (and admittedly lacking patience). Incidentally, the bezel on this unit folds down when cabling is installed to allow for easier access, but snaps back into place to conceal the cabling, giving the overall rack a clean, if distinctive "Tripp Lite" finish . If you're mounting it in a wall rack like the Tripp Lite 12USG, note that you'll likely need to slide the two front rack posts further into the rack since the cable manager takes up about 3 to 4 inches of front panel space. This puts all of your rack mounted equipment further back, which can cause interference issues if your rack isn't deep enough. Case in point: My rackmount UPS is the largest unit and its outlets are on the back panel. I barely had room for the power cords of the equipment connected to this unit to clear the back of the rack. In fact, I converted them to right-handed NEMA 5-15R plugs to reduce stress on the cable. Tripp Lite (and I'm sure others do too) sells deeper racks, so if in doubt, consider that approach. Believe it or not, rack depth was my biggest concern during LAN setup. For wall shelves, however, I prefer a smaller cabinet. Knowing this could be an issue, I checked the dimensions of the hardware throughout the project, and while it worked fairly well, I held my breath over this and a few other items. Ultimately, this 2U cable organizer definitely put the finishing touch to the job and looks very nice as a bonus.
