Review on πŸ›₯️ Starter Relay SMR6003: MIDIYA Starter Solenoid Switch for OMC Marine Outboards, Inboard Power Tilt, Johnson Trim Motor, and Evinrude Outboard Applications by Eric Speers

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The negative coil connection is via the mounting base rather than one of the smaller terminals.

Works well. The product was similar to the stock Ford solenoids and is what I needed for my project. One clamp is connected to the battery, one clamp is connected to the starter, a smaller clamp is connected to the positive of the starter switch, the remaining smaller clamp is connected to the ignition resistor bypass if you have one (I don't have one). Note that the negative pole of the solenoid is routed through the mounting base and grounded to the frame or metal junction box. I've used it on an older Evinrude hang starter setup, but be aware that all motor interlocks are disabled as the magnet mount is connected to the control box which is normally connected to the battery negative terminal unless you isolate the box from the negative pole . battery clamp. I knew it was, but I made a custom starter box and it wasn't a problem. Also note that the smaller terminal is long. They came in the metal cover of the old Evinrude control box, so I had to shorten the clamps and bend the mounting tab a bit to free the box lid. I've used it all summer and it still works as intended.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
