I don't usually write reviews but finding the perfect case has been so frustrating. I hope this helps the next parent. My toddler has an iPad Mini 2 and the case fits perfectly. It's not hard plastic, but more of a sleeve-like protective foam. It's way better than the silicone cases we spent a lot of money on. The body of this case is strong enough to actually protect the entire iPad. We've had it for a few months and it has survived many falls on our hardwood floors. I would definitely rate the durability of this product 4.5 stars and the durability is the same. The case isn't heavy, but I wouldn't say it's light. My toddler can carry it around easily. The only downside I have is that the case muffles the sound due to the thickness of the protection. Even with the iPad volume settings, I can't hear it (depending on the content you're watching). Another issue I had is that the plastic screen cover makes the screen extremely difficult to use. In general, this is not the best option for a baby.
