As mentioned in other reviews, the painting is very poor. The pressed plate peels off easily and is located on the top edge of the case on the sides. We didn't use the ground floor as we wanted the cats to be able to get up and go potty. We ended up adding at least a couple of 4 X4s and then another 2 X 4s under the litter box. We also added a double layer of thick plastic to the floor under the litter box. It takes two people to assemble, but there are no pre-drilled holes, so you'll need someone with good building skills to make it work. The porch now appears to be made of a different material than previous reviews, so the veneer shouldn't show up if it gets wet. It looks like pine boards. I take a can of Varathane clear paint and smear it on. It is very cute and the top opening makes it easy to clean the cat box. I would buy this again.
