I bought a pair of AW5500's to mount over the back and they sound great. I use them with a Yamaha R-S500 stereo receiver and I don't notice any distortion even at high volumes (didn't actually turn them on because the neighbors would hate me). The bass is much better than other outdoor speakers. heard in the past. As rear-firing woofers, they use the wall they're mounted to to improve bass quality. According to the manual, for best results they should be installed under the eaves so you have two solid surfaces for the bass to bounce off. I could hear decent bass from 0 to 10 feet, but after that it kind of went away. This isn't surprising, although the exterior acoustics are generally pretty terrible. If you have the space, consider the AW6500 as it only costs $40 more for a speaker and the bass looks better. The AW5500 are large floorstanding speakers in their own right, so I think the 6500 might be too big for my overhangs.
