Wow! Amazing functionality and components for the price!

This camera and accessories come in a small, nondescript box and I thought "it's unlikely all these things will fit in here" but it is! There's a camera with a slightly padded body; wide-angle lens in a protective case; microphone in its own protective cover; two batteries for the microphone; batteries and remote control; data cables for connection to a computer; Wall mount for charging the camera battery and a spare camera battery. There are also manuals for the wide-angle lens, microphone, and the camera itself. The camera also comes with a 32G micro SD card in a micro SD card adapter. What a comprehensive package of material! The basic camera functions will be very familiar if you have used a digital video camera in the past ten years. The preview screen folds to the side, showing the controls on the side of the camera. The screen is also touch sensitive. The wide/narrow setting is on top along with the photo button. The HDMI cable and audio jack (for microphone) are located under the rear edge cover. A few facts to keep in mind: The lens cap is installed manually, not automatically, ie. You take it off and close it. I think it probably makes it easier to use a wide angle lens. The camera does not appear to be AC powered; You must charge the second battery to use it. The charger shows a very nice red when the battery is charging and green when it is charged. However, as with most digital camcorders I've ever used, the battery will drain even when it's supposed to be off. The menus and controls are familiar but fully icon-driven so you really need to read the manual and know exactly what they all do. The menu is not always as simple as one would like. For example, I still haven't really figured out how to get into the menu to set the time and date. I did it but I'm not sure how I did it. With touchscreen access, you can only turn the date stamp on or off, so via the physical menu button. so many logical problems. As for the camera performance and quality, I'm really impressed, but I have to admit that I'm not a high-fidelity user. A wide-angle lens is incredibly useful for landscape and event photography - I wish I always had one. Microphone. We're not sure yet if this makes a huge difference in sound recording, but it definitely helps reduce outside wind noise a lot more than previous recorders that tried to do it electronically. The remote control will be a big hit with my students who use my camera to record mock interviews. Night vision is a bit dark. The infrared light is on the side of the camera and doesn't reach too far or shine too brightly. However, this is more than ever in a digital video camera! The file size varies between 720 and 1080 resolution, but we don't see much difference in playback quality, maybe it's just us. Transferring files to the PC worked flawlessly, and to be honest it's a great relief that the camera itself doesn't have a wealth of editing capabilities. I've only had the camera for a few weeks and will report back if I run into any problems. with this. For now though, I'd call it an amazing option for beginners and/or hobbyists that has pretty much every feature you could possibly need.

Pros
  • Nice thing

  • It's OK
