I have little experience with anything newer than 1991 so I didn't even know how to use the thing. Of course, the instructions that come with it are difficult to understand, but if you're working on your own vehicle I'm sure you have the intelligence to figure it out. However, when I first tried mine, like some others, said "Codes not found" even though my friend's several hundred dollar device had already read the codes to me. It turned out that as stated in the title the problem was on MY side, not the device side. You must connect the device to the **IGNITION OFF** port. Once the device boots up, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position - no need to have the engine running. **NOW** you can read the codes. Worked great. The codes are presented as both numeric codes and text descriptions. I was also able to clear the codes with no problems. The only problem I found - and again this may be my ignorance - is that the device failed to read the VIN. I know the car is capable of this as my friend read it well. I'm sure I can handle it, but if not, it's okay. Now I know how to read the number from the VIN tag. In short, if you need to read codes on your OBD2 vehicle, this is a great little device.
