This is "preliminary" because I haven't made any dogs yet. However, I went through the book carefully and compared photos to dogs I had or knew well. I had an Afghan Hound and I have to say the designers did a fantastic job creating a realistic looking knitted Afghan Hound. Mine (patches) was brindle but the main thing is the head shape, the muzzle, the posture and the huge amount of long long hair and they are perfect. The neighbor's IRISH (red) SETTER used to drive me home from elementary school. He waited for me in his front yard and as soon as he admired me, he followed me to my front yard. As soon as I got up the steps, he turned and went home. Designers admit that their color does not match. And that. My friend was quite red, kind of copper, shiny, red, very soft and silky. I have ONLY DISPUTES with her GERMAN SHEPHERD. I had one when I was young, another when I was a teenager, and now after years of protecting and rescuing puppies, I have another one. When they are not playing peacefully or resting, I see them as a dignified looking dog with a calm "don't mess with me or me" look. I thought her looks were stupid. First, the tongue is too wide to fit in the mouth, second, no dogs tongue is almost white (Jamie's is dark pink), third, they don't stand with their tongues hanging out unless they've just been practicing, fourth, the ears should be something like "elvin", very large and vertical (I believe the ears are twice as thick as their huskies, but much longer), and finally their tails just don't touch the ground, so their tails are too short. As an advanced knitter, I plan to start with a solid color pup. If all goes as I think (after carefully reading some sample instructions) I will try the German Shepherd with the changes noted above. I'll let you know how it goes. I look forward to further feedback! - especially with useful tips or things to watch out for. Many Thanks.
