Product stays on .I just can't use the templates properly

I got taupe, but it has a grayish dark look. It's okay, but expected lighter. I am not able to use the stamper so I've wasted almost $20. It's just not for me. I do use my brush (dip it) and can use the product, but am a bit disappointed it didn't work out for me.
