Review on GRINDSHIELD Bruxism Mouth Guard – Small, Moldable, Custom-Fit - Set of 4 Mouth Guards for Teeth Grinding & Case – Dental Guard, Nightguard for Teeth Clenching, Mouthguard for Sleep, TMJ Night Guard by Michelle Anderson

Used guards for years and it's rubbish. AVOID!

I've been using aligners for many years so I know what I'm talking about. It's terrible. I bought a couple of guards in 2016 and they eventually ran out. Unfortunately, the ones I bought back then for $9 for four aren't listed anymore, and there's the usual plethora of Chinese products that have no idea how safe or how well they work. Try the Grindshield Guards. $5 a piece didn't seem too bad compared to what's on the market today, and at least they were all the same size, as opposed to the many that have kid and adult sizes in the set, which means , that you only buy two viable guards . With 6% 1-star and 64% 5-star ratings, they seemed worth considering. My first observation was that they are thin compared to my old ones. Also, the shape is a very wide flat bottom and needs to be severely narrowed in width to fit snugly over the front teeth, but they are not wide enough to fit over the molars. I couldn't imagine them lasting as long as my previous guards. I followed the instructions exactly. I put the first one in hot water for 4 seconds. I pulled it out with a spoon and it immediately collapsed. The material was essentially sticking to itself, and trying to separate it resulted in the material just falling apart. Gum is stronger! For the second watch I let the water cool a few more minutes and lowered it for 3 seconds. I picked it up and it was obvious the material wasn't soft enough. I put it back in the water for about 6 seconds. It softened this time, but the front portion flexed when lifted, stuck back to itself, and ripped when I gently tried to pry it apart on a damp paper towel (see instructions). For the third backup I let the water cool down. further. This time the protective material got softer, but clearly not enough. I couldn't suck on it enough to fit in my teeth. I put it back in the water for a longer time and tried again. Still no luck. I really "felt" the Guard in my mouth and it was clear it wasn't going to last as long as my others. It's just too flimsy, especially after it's been sculpted and thinned when you can take it that far! I didn't bother with the last defense and decided I want my $20 back! I'm sure that with the right water temperature and time, the Guardian would mold successfully. However, it is clear that the correct temperature range is extremely small and you are not told what it is; Just use water that isn't at boiling point but is close to boiling. Grindshield is clearly aware of this issue as they ask you to email them to request more guards if you are having trouble forming them. I would buy them but they are not worth it. Thank you for reading this review and I hope it helps you with your purchase decision.
