Until I ordered it I didn't realize it wasn't enamel on steel, just high temp paint on steel. :/ I have a gas stove so if the flame goes up the sides it can burn the paint. As long as you know the flame needs to be underneath you can use it on a gas stove, but using an electric stove is probably better. However, it's super cute. The whistle works great, not too loud. It takes longer to heat water than my old kettle, but my old one was heavier and much more expensive. It's lightweight, pours smoothly, the handle stays cool, and the lid closes well. For the price, this is a fairly small pot that heats water and lets you know when it's boiling.
