I bought two of these to put by the fireplace to cover the TV cables. They were the perfect size for what I needed. After the considerable amount of time it took to put them together, I felt they weren't good enough to remain a focal point in the living room, despite what some reviews say. Instead, I put this shelf in the bathroom to store knick-knacks. As for size, they are small. You can customize the shelves, use as many or as few as you like depending on how big you want the shelves to be. This is the only convenience. I would recommend buying them ONLY if you don't expect much or plan on using them in the bathroom like me. Don't buy them if you need a lot of storage space and don't buy them if you have a lot of high quality furniture and plan to put this shelf in the middle of it because it will stick out like a thumb!
