I wasted a dozen connectors before I got it right. The secret I found was to bend the end of the wire so it doesn't slip out of the hole. white in one direction and colored in the other for straight, non-crossed. Then slowly squeeze and move the wire from side to side. Difficult to see at my age of 75, make sure you have 4 whites to one side. and 4 colored ones on the other side. Hope that helps.
