Compared to standard screw compressors they are much heavier and press hard on the coil springs to remove without rack stress. There are 3 forks included and I used a medium size 88-160mm for my Subaru. The clamps are made of cast iron and have plastic protections to avoid scratching the painted springs. The compressor rod is tightened with a conventional ratchet, it is not recommended to use an impact wrench. Unlike smaller compressors, this one side compresses the spring just enough to remove the main bolt holding the strut together, as the yoke cups fit about halfway up the spring top and bottom. I had compressed one of my springs overnight to see how well it would hold up and had absolutely no problems. I'm wondering if these forks are strong enough for large truck springs, but I mostly work with small cars and haven't had a chance to test them on big fat springs. Even if one of the cast iron parts breaks, it's likely to happen before you remove the nut, so it won't do much damage. If the spring isn't loose, you still shouldn't remove the nut, and once the spring is loosened from the strut, there's no additional tension on it. Installing new coils works the same way. Compress it and slide it into the old or new rack, replace the nut and loosen the compressor by hand. It doesn't take long, even with a standard 1/2" ratchet and a standard (or impact) hex or 12 point socket. Compared to smaller spring compressors, this is a huge upgrade. Most of the time they'll pay for themselves after you've used them and they seem to be durable enough to last many years with strut replacement, especially in a garage where only a few old cars ride. No complaints, although I'd like to see forged or machined clamps, which will likely raise the price a lot. There were no issues when using this compressor and overall I am very happy with it. The parts are quick to assemble and disassemble, and you'll have to take them apart to put them in the included storage box as everything lays flat. I ended up hanging the tool in my shop and have a box of extra parts under one of the tool boxes for storage.
