I do traditional woodworking by hand and I find these sanding pads essential for anyone carving moldings or, in my case, simple beads. I am making (assembled) tongue and groove planks for the bottom of a large pine box. Traditionally matched boards are adorned with side rails alongside tongue and groove to essentially hide the inevitable gaps created by wood movement. This was my first experience of cutting such a joint in a real project, so I cut a test piece first where the tongue and groove came out fine on the final piece as well, but unlike my test piece some of my boards had the reverse grain that my planer (a well-tuned Stanley #50) needed to fix. cut against it. The side of several of my boards was terribly torn and torn. No planing could solve the problem because fencing on almost all beading planes only allows you to work in one direction, which in those few cases was against the direction. The next day, as I sanded the surface of each board to prepare them for finishing, I remembered ordering them months ago! Even though my rollers were 3/16" and the smallest round backing pad was 1/4", it still worked great. However, to sand the deepest part of the roller I had to use sandpaper wrapped around the sanding wheel. old ID card. I've included a picture showing one of the previously twisted beads. You can still see small cracks on the edges, but I can live with that! Sometimes you just have to swim against the tide and these sanding pads really helped me!
