I bought these to keep on my desk and use during lunch breaks. To fill them you have to pull the lid to open and put the lid back on after filling the grinder. The reason I didn't give this item 5 stars is because I feel like there might be issues removing the top and replacing the stuffing (the rod that turns the grinder and attaches to the top seems a little flimsy, and over time there may be problems. It looks like the rod is made of plastic). Also, a big reason is that these are so small (short) that they are difficult to hold and sharpen. I'm a 5ft 1in woman with very small hands and even I had a hard time holding the bottom of the grinder while spinning the top. Be aware I would choose a different product if you have large hands or have arthritis or another condition that would make this coffee grinder difficult to use. If the grinder was at least 1 inch taller, it would be easier to use. Those issues aside, this set seems to work well for my needs and stores easily in my desk at work.
