I think these are pretty decent boxes but maybe not $40 boxes. They are very sturdy and well made with only a few minor imperfections. They're a stack of flat shapes that you unroll and assemble. The sides are laid out in one piece and the base is packed in the lid. You just put the base in, put the lid on and you're done! They're a bit like these folding stools, but less heavy and durable. The interior is fully lined, as is the lid. I would describe the lining as a kind of woven synthetic fabric. The lid is made of a velvety plush material and the outside is made of a heavily textured fabric. There are two vinyl handles on either end, although I think they're more for beauty than functionality. They really don't have enough room to slip your arms through easily and they don't feel sturdy enough for lifting heavy weights. Although these are folding boxes, they have a well-structured shape when unfolded. The lids fit really well and everything is square and put together decently. There is some "give" in the joined sides and the bottom is wavy, but they fold really well without sagging. However, I wouldn't expect them to hold really heavy items like a stack of books inside. I think they are best for light things. The lids, although very square, have unconnected edges beneath the velvet fabric. The velvet on my lids also has deep shipping marks - sort of crushed velvet shapes - that appear to be permanent. They are not huge and do not spoil the appearance, but cause minor inconveniences. What I like most about these boxes is that they fold and unfold easily and quickly and stay neat and compact between uses. It's easy to change your mind and rearrange or pack them.
