My mother struggled to unplug the coffee pot and pulled on the cord. At some point the cord broke. Snap this onto the new string and she will have a much easier time unclipping it now. As a previous reviewer noted, the notch you have to thread the cable through is too narrow for most cables. However, I have found that there really is no need to run a cable through the slot as long as you use both zip ties. As far as I know, the slot serves no useful purpose anyway. If you had a very thin cable and were just using a zip tie, perhaps the notch would help hold the cable between the two pull holes. Otherwise I see no need to use the slot.
