The problem with most salt shakers is that they're too sparing with salt. I know nobody wants to put salt on food, but most manufacturers have gone to the other extreme and almost don't let it get enough sleep despite vigorous shaking. Adding salt during cooking can be particularly irritating. This beautifully designed and nicely heavy salt dispenser (because you don't have to shake it to make the salt run out) is just the right size to fit my hand and its top is adjustable from medium to heavy salt flow. But be careful. Even on the finest adjustment, if you hold the thing upside down the salt will flow out fairly quickly, no shaking required, so risk of oversalting. You can get around this by setting it to the best level, adding quick shakes to the parts of your meal you want to salt, and you won't end up having too much of it. This salt dispenser is just right for me.
