So you just got a new router and are wondering which bits to get, let me make that decision easy for you: 4 inches where possible because 1 /2" bits are much more stable at high RPM and make clean cuts easier. 2) It's really a battle between Whiteside and Freud, if you will. Quality bits that stay sharp and give you clean, smooth results. I have Bought this bit set on the recommendation of other carpenters I've spoken to and I'm happy with their work. It's hard to say objectively that one beat is better than the other but I can tell you which cuts I have and how they came out. an improper router bit can result in your work piece chipping and thereby ruining it. I made a 1/2" square cutout in one piece 3/4" hardwood plywood. The result was perfect: the 1/4" edge was perfectly smooth and exactly 1/2" square. I made this cut in one pass at a constant speed and there were no burns or other damage to the work piece. The Dado chisel has a removable bearing that allows you to adjust the horizontal depth of cut; it was adjusted to 1/2 inch from the package. - Concentric 3/8" Spiral Cuts: Twist drills are very versatile as they cut in all directions. I wanted to make recessed cutouts for the speakers, so I used a 3/8 twist drill in 3/4" thick red oak to do this. My first cut was on a 1/4" deep edge, followed by a second 3/8" cut through the 3/4" thick oak panel. I made both cuts in one pass with flawless results. I don't have a dive shop used, meaning I had to start cutting by slowly rolling the router into the work piece at an angle. With a smaller cutter, this method could easily have caused the cutter to pop out, but the cutter with the white side sheared off The end result is a perfectly recessed circle with smooth edges. The drill bit is exactly 3/8" long, so there was no variation in the cut despite different depth settings. For full depth cutting, I set the depth to about 1 inch, which means the bit will protrude. from the bottom of the work piece about 1/4" rounding: Rounding the edges of the oak board was a breeze with the included rounding tool. It's a 1/4" radius, which is exactly what I wanted for this project. Nothing more to say about it say.- Edge trim: This trim allows you to achieve perfect edges where two pieces may not line up exactly. I used it to align the front of my speakers with the box and it worked exactly how I wanted it to. The oak parts that look like they are part of the body. Swipe your finger and you won't feel the transition between parts. The edge cutter is long and, like other cutters, precise over the entire length of the cut Quickly remove dried glue on the edges without sanding - saves time and better results than sanding I have done this before and am more than satisfied with the result I have not used Freud's fragments , but were also often recommended; I got the impression that when they cut, both sound equally good, but the white ones stay sharp longer. This is not an objective statement so don't think I'm recommending it over Freud as I believe Freud's circular saw blades are some of the best in the business. Keep these tips clean and sharpen as needed, they'll last a long time. Life. They are razor sharp so be careful when handling them as you can easily cut your fingers. You can spray them with dry Teflon lubricant to make them easier to clean. To do this, I spray the blades with Dupont Teflon paste.
