I really like the overall sturdiness of this camera. Walking horses all day and being able to take a video/photo and then put it in your pocket without worrying about it falling out of your pocket and breaking is a dream come true! I'm used to carrying a Nikon D200 with an extended lens, so this is a whole new experience! Despite this, I still use this camera for its video capabilities, mainly because of the CCD rather than CMOS chip (there's really no problem saying it's a camera and not a camcorder, so nobody should scold me for those) and I find that this tiny camera is a bit difficult to zoom in/out while recording video due to its somewhat awkward "rectangular" design. And the microphone picks up all kinds of static noise. but I tend to remove the video-audio post-processing and add my own, so what the heck! No big deal. The video quality is excellent compared to my old Sony D8, apart from the slight stuttering that all these new little cameras have. This is the main difference when comparing old cameras to something new. A tripod is useless in most places I go, and the certain weight of the old camera meant people held on tighter and kept the video more stable. But that weight also made me less likely to WANT to carry a camera, so it's kind of a catch-22. Anyway, I use VirtualDub and the Deshaker filter to get rid of "most" of the jitter, and life is good for what I want! and with the help of videos with horses. "Andalusian mare for sale: Countess CK at her first dressage competition" was filmed with this camera on a tripod. Don't pay attention to the colors or "sharpness" of the video. Post processing to enhance the color and then compression changes everything. The actual video from the camera is clear and beautiful. Note, however, that zooming in and out is a bit abrupt and difficult to keep smooth. Also, it's the "best" I could do to smooth out the tremors. Someone else can do it better, but for the "little" (minimal? :) ) average computer user, this is the best I've been able to do in less than my kid's school years. LAUGH OUT LOUD
