This block is very strong and looks solid. When I was looking for this item I was looking for a weight that would be in one place to do my beautiful sewing projects and black and white projects. The light is bright and adjustable from project to project. This isn't the first magnifier I've bought. The rest was unstable and with broken countertops. They were thin and didn't last long. The website gave no indication of where the lamp was made, but said the company was "American". The light (and everything else I researched was made in China. I tried not to buy Chinese products, so I was pissed when the bottom of the lamp said "Made in China". Unfortunately, there is no choice. with a lot of special items. There is a good guarantee (3 years). I hope it lasts for many years and I will change my mind if it gives me problems. The lamp came with a tiny piece of paper with assembly drawings. No Words and it took me light to see the instructions, there were bits in the nuts and bolts pack which I couldn't decipher, also the instructions didn't indicate where to put the lock washer.
