These brushes have an odd finish with an "unnatural" chemical smell as another reviewer mentioned. As someone with allergies and sensitivity to smells, this put me off a lot, but after using a wide-toothed comb this odd finish rubbed off and the wood took on a greenish tint, which is normal for this type of sandalwood. The comb now smells very nice of wood and more importantly, it detangles my fine hair much better and more gently than plastic combs or brushes. I rarely use a fine-toothed comb, but they're good when needed, too.
