Review on Fossil Molds by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good quality but requires careful handling and storage.

I used stylecast which is harder than plaster. After lubricating the mold with a thin layer of cooking oil (petroleum jelly preferably!), I set the molds. They dried in 30 minutes and look flawless. Simply fill them to the brim and then gently turn them out onto a flat, dry and level surface. I drew them and they look realistic. This mold is ideal for chocolate or cool sweets. I think it doesn't stand up to repeated use at high temperatures or dishwashing. But if they are hand washed and dried with dish soap and soft water and handles and stored without heavy objects to put pressure on them they will last many times. I used mine to take pictures of fossils for a geography class. When you come together, the bottom is flat, but a great learning tool for trilobites, gyrods, and ammonites!

Pros
  • ceramics and pottery
Cons
  • long delivery time
