Comparison of 3 outdoor speakers I tried. Polk Atrium 8 SDI ($200 each when I bought them in 2012, now $249 each) Definitive Technology AW6500 ($250 each) PSB CS1000 ($550 per pair) I liked all three speakers , but Polks ranked third for me in some comparisons. I kept a couple of PSB CS1000s and a couple of Definitive Technology AW6500s. I tested with a 20 year old Onkyo receiver (80 watts per channel). and a 10 year old Yamaha receiver (100 watts per channel). Sources were Sony CD players, iPod, iPad, Playstation 3. PSB is my favorite of the three and Def Techs is second. PSB have slightly better picture and bass. was about the same (just a little lower at Def Techs). You can leave the PSB bass connector plugged in (a perfect-match bass connector plug is included) for tighter bass with less extension, or disable the bass connector for deeper extension. Shelving is somewhat lacking in midrange detail compared to PSB. Polks just didn't offer that kind of separation of instruments/voices/etc. and had less detail overall. During testing, I played many different styles of music. from Radiohead to Mozart, as well as many other genres (rock, rap, acoustic, jazz etc.) mixed. (a simple and unscientific test where you tap your fingers in different places on the body) PSBDef TechPolkBass extension:Def TechPolk / PSBefficiency:Def Tech - 92dbPolk - 91dbPSB - 86db, that's not bad) Def techs are the only ones designed and manufactured in the USA. So that might be the only reason to choose them if you're on the fence. Again, the speakers are of similar quality, so you really can't go wrong with any of them. Deftechs. Also note that if you have a room where you only want to place one speaker and don't want to lose either right or left channel audio, Polks has the ability to accept left and right signals (also a dual tweeter design) so you can use one speaker for stereo transmission. The other two speakers do not have this option.
